Beech Island S.C. – The Beech Island Fire Department completed its annual trip to Recliffe
Elementary for  the National Fire Prevention Week.  The department observes National Fire
Prevention Week every year which was October 9-15 this year .

Beech Island was able to visit with most of the children.  The firefighters discussed fire and life
safety issues.  They were able to show the young children a fire truck and what a firefighter looks
like and how they sound when they are fully dressed.  Firemen and kids alike were able to have fun
as students were able to dress up in the firefighting gear.

"It is always fun to come here and educate the kids," said Chief Justin Craven.  "Our firefighters get
as much out of it as the kids do."

The fire department also announced an essay contest for the fourth and fifth grades to participate
in.  First place in each grade gets a $25 gift certificate to Wal-Mart.  Second place gets a $10 gift
certificate.  All classes received a prize from the firefighters.

"We have some smart kids who are prepared for an emergency," said Chief Craven.  "Our goal is for
them to take the information and share with their families."
